Kroll inks two standouts for Women’s Tennis

SAN ANTONIO -- UTSA women's tennis has signed Laura Munoz-Baroja (San Sebastián, Spain) and Keegan McCain (Austin, Texas) to National Letters of Intent for the 2019-20 season, it was announced by Coach Ki Kroll.
 
Both players highly sought after, McCain joins the UTSA roster after a decorated USTA Juniors career where she continually finishes amongst the top players in Texas. The daughter of professional tennis standouts, McCain has shined has a prep at Westlake High School.
 
"Keegan brings a lot to the table, not only as an intense singles competitor, but also a highly ranked doubles player," Kroll said. "I feel very fortunate to have picked up such a dedicated team player."
 
Munoz-Baroja, comes to the United States with not only a strong tennis resume, but equally an accomplished student. Munoz-Baroja hales from San Sebastián, Spain, where she attended Summa-Aldapta. During a trip to the United State in July, Munoz-Baroja was named the champion of the UTSA Northern Junior Team Tennis Sectional Tournament, only one of her many accomplishments on the tennis court.  
 
"I'm so excited to have Laura joining our team in the Fall," Kroll said. "I know she will bring a fighting spirit and a no quit attitude. She's just such a fierce competitor it will immediately help our team."
 
Keegan McCain – Austin, Texas (Westlake High School)
Notes: Coached by Kim Riley at Westlake High School … Has gone undefeated in singles and doubles as a senior … Advanced to the quarterfinals of the Girls National Clay Courts (18s) … Advanced to the state semifinals as a sophomore, quarterfinals as a junior and in doubles as a sophomore … Won over 12 Texas doubles tournaments, won three singles tournaments in Texas and finaled in over 10 events … Named academic all-district all four years. Personal: Daughter of Scott and Patricia McCain … Has a brother Sean and sister Hayley … Father played at Cal Berkeley from 1977-80, was ranked as the nation's top player, before a seven-year career at the ATP Tour (1979-86) … Mother played at Stanford from 1984-87 and on the WTA Tour for 13 years.

Notes: Has had a strong prep career in Spain, winning several national tournaments and a state mixed doubles championship in 2016 … She was ranked No. 127 nationally in Spain and at the age of 16 was No. 47 among 18-under athletes … During trip to the US in July, won the UTSA Northern Junior Team Tennis Section Championship … Interested in pursing a major in electrical engineering … Excels academically, ranking as the sixth best in her class with a 3.5 cumulative GPA … Personal: Daughter of Jose Mario and Angelica … Has a brother, Pablo, who plays at Ferris State … Born in San Sebastian.
