HOUSTON -- Byron Frohnen and Jhivvan Jackson scored 21 points apiece and Keaton Wallace added 20 to lead UTSA to an 86-82 victory over Houston Baptist on Monday night at Sharp Gym.
The Roadrunners won their second straight game to improve to 2-5 on the season, while the Huskies, who upset Wake Forest on the road last week, fell to 2-3.
Frohnen's 21 points were a career high, topping his previous best of 18, which he did twice, including against HBU last season. The junior made 10-of-12 from the floor and added five rebounds.
Jackson scored his 21 in just 21 minutes of action, as the sophomore guard converted 11-of-12 from the free-throw line and hit a pair of key 3-pointers late in the contest to help UTSA even the all-time series with the Huskies at 5-5.
Meanwhile, Wallace posted his third 20-point game of the season on the strength of four 3-pointers and the sophomore from Dallas matched his season high with eight rebounds.
UTSA built an 11-point lead in the first half only to see HBU open up one of its own behind an 11-0 spurt to start the second half.
The Roadrunners answered with a 10-1 stretch that was capped by a three-point play from Adokiye Iyaye to make it 54-52 with 13:42 left to play.
Wallace completed a three-point play of his own near the midway point of the half to hand UTSA its first lead since the 6:26 mark of the first half.
Two minutes later, Jackson knocked down a fast-break 3-pointer from the right wing to give the visitors a 74-72 advantage, a lead they would not relinquish.
Wallace then provided some cushion with a trey from the corner to make it 77-72 with 3:47 left.
HBU pulled to within four with two-and-a-half minutes remaining when Benjamin Uloko hit a pair of free throws, but Frohnen hit a layup and UTSA made 2-of-4 from the charity stripe to push the lead to 84-79 with 14 seconds left to play.
Ian DuBose hit a 3-pointer with 7.2 seconds left to pull the Huskies to within 84-82, but Jackson drained his last two free throws with four ticks on the clock to provide the final four-point margin.
DuBose led the Huskies with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Uloko and Edward Hardt added 14 and 13 points, respectively.
The Roadrunners stormed out to 8-1 and 15-6 leads behind eight early points from Frohnen.
UTSA eventually opened up an 11-point advantage midway through the first half when a Frohnen basket made it 30-19.
The Huskies responded with a 14-1 run that was capped by a Hardt layup that gave the home team its first lead of the contest at 33-31 with 5:11 left to play in the half.
HBU built a 42-39 edge late in the first but Wallace grabbed a loose ball and drained a three from the right wing to knot the score at the break.
The Roadrunners will return home to host I-35 Rival Texas State on Saturday, Dec. 1. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. at the Convocation Center.
