STILLWATER, Okla. – UTSA fell by an 82-60 final at Oklahoma State inside Historic Gallagher-Iba Arena on Wednesday evening in a nonconference game for both squads.
The Cowboys (1-1) were led by Cameron McGriff's 20-point, 10 rebound double-double. Joining McGriff in double-figures in the scoring column were Thomas Dziagwa with 16, Lindy Waters III with 14 and Maurice Calloo with 11. OSU shot an even 50.0 percent for the game, including 10 3-pointers, and outrebounded the Roadrunners 42-39.
Byron Frohnen was UTSA's leading scorer and rebounder with 11 and nine, respectively. The junior also collected five steals and dished out a pair of assists. Freshman Adokiye Iyaye collected his first collegiate double-digit scoring performance as the Oklahoma City native finished with 10. UTSA (0-3) shot 32.8 percent from the field with 5 makes from long range.
Following a Waters' layup to opene the second-half scoring, UTSA cut a then-11-point deficit to four as Nick Allen scored inside, Keaton Wallace hit a 3-pointer and Frohnen laid one off the fast break to bring the score to 38-24 in OSU's favor. However, the Cowboy's responded to quickly swell the lead to 21 at 56-35 with a 17-1 scoring streak over the next seven minutes.
UTSA would be unable to mount a comeback as scoring droughts and shooting woes plagued the Roadrunners, allowing Oklahoma State to close out the 22-point victory.
UTSA took an early 10-point lead at 13-3 on an Allen drive and score, but OSU rallied to score 11 of the game's next 14 points to hold its first lead of the night at 17-16 on a Waters 3-pointer at the 11:24 mark. Over the next seven minutes the Cowboys would piece together a 19-6 run, including a streak of three straight 3-pointers from Dziagwa, to go in front 36-22 with 3:00 to play before the half.
Neither team would score again until UTSA's Iyaye found a bucket to break the Roadrunners' six-plus minute scoring drought and 30 seconds later Giovanni De Nicolao converted an and-1 to trim the Cowboys halftime advantage to 36-27.
