Women's hoops falls to UMBC in Seton Hall Tip-off

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The UTSA women's basketball team fell to UMBC, 72-58 Saturday afternoon at the Seton Hall Tip-off.
 
Karrington Donald hit new career highs in 3-pointers made and attempted (4 for 11) as UTSA shot 22 for 62 from the field. 
 
Three Roadrunners hit double digits in the game, Donald and Tija Hawkins each scored 14 and Marie Benson had 17. Hawkins led the team in rebounds with seven, while freshman Charlotte Ellmore had four assists.
 
In the first quarter, Marie Benson put UTSA on the board with a 3-pointer just 30 seconds into the game. The Roadrunners started off strong shooting 47.1 percent from the field and had a 21-19 lead going into the second. Donald hit two 3's as UTSA trailed 39-28 going into halftime.
 
Hawkins scored 10 points in the third quarter as UTSA only allowed UMBC to score seven points. The Roadrunners trailed by five (48-43) going to the fourth. 
 
The Roadrunners shot 58.8 percent from the field in the fourth. Six of the 15 points scored by UTSA were from free throws. The Roadrunners made nine of 11 free throws for 81.8 percent.
 
UTSA returns to the court tomorrow when it faces Seton Hall at 12 p.m. CT.
