SAN ANTONIO – UTSA baseball will host the final of its two fall scrimmages on Saturday, welcoming McLennan Community College to Roadrunner Field with a 1 p.m. CT first pitch.
The Roadrunners, who played 14 innings with Lamar last Saturday, are slated to conclude their fall scrimmage schedule on Saturday with junior college powerhouse McLennan. McLennan and UTSA have many connections, including first-year assistant coach Roger Kieschnick, who was an assistant at McLennan in 2018.
UTSA also has six former McLennan stars on the roster, including lefty Connor Heffron, infielder Griffin Paxton, righty Palmer Wenzel, right-hander Shane Daughety, righty Kyrell Miller and catcher Nick Thornquist.
On Saturday, UTSA played 14 innings with Lamar, taking a 4-1 lead after the first nine innings. Veteran pitchers Tyler Griovanoni, Bradley Griggs and Karan Patel each worked two shutout innings to open the game, with Jonathan Tapia belting a homer to highlight the offense.
UTSA opens its 2019 schedule on Feb. 15-17 with a three-game series vs. McNeese State at Roadrunner Field.
