Roadrunners grab top-five finishes at Incarnate Word Invitational

LIVE OAK, Texas – The UTSA cross country programs continued their 2018 campaigns on Saturday at the 13th annual Incarnate Word Invitational, contested at the Live Oak City Park. The Roadrunner men were led by Omar Bekdache in the 8k race, while freshman Brooke Lomax paced the UTSA women.
 
The Roadrunner men placed third in the field of 11 teams, totaling 105 points, finishing ahead of Our Lady of the Lake, Southwestern, Abilene Christian, St. Thomas, Trinity, Texas Lutheran, McMurry and Schreiner.

 
Bekdache, a sophomore, finished the race in 27:43.9 to place 20th overall. He was followed by freshman Mason Lischka with a time of 27:58.4 in 22nd. Freshman Christopher Wise, junior Mason Riley and sophomore Christian Castellanos crossed the line moments after one another as Wise ran a 28:31.9 to place 30th, Riley a 28:34.0 to place 31st and Castellanos a 28:39.1 to place 33rd. Hunter Hawkins, a senior, clocked a 29:10.1 to cross the finish line 39th.

 
The UTSA women totaled 129 points to place fourth in the 10-team field, finishing ahead of UNAL College, Trinity, Texas Lutheran, Our Lady of the Lake, St. Thomas and Sul Ross State.

 
Lomax, who was making her collegiate debut, led the squad with a 25:09.5 to place 18th overall. Junior Rian Rodriguez stopped the clock at 25:37.4 to place 25th. Abigail Behring, a freshman, closely followed Rodriguez across the finish line as she placed 29th with a time of 25:44.8. Sarah Estrada and Chloe Munoz rounded out the Roadrunners' scorers, placing 39th and 46th, respectively. Estrada, a junior, ran a 26:57.1, while Munoz, a freshman, clocked a 27:31.3. Junior Stephanie Sauceda placed 55th with a 28:13.6 to round out the Roadrunners' contingent.
