SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA soccer team garnered its fifth shut out with a 2-0 victory Charlotte on senior day Sunday afternoon at Park West Athletics Complex.
The Roadrunners (6-9-1, 2-6-1 C-USA) out-shot the 49ers (8-8, 4-5 C-USA) 10-9.
UTSA acted early with a goal in the eighth minute of the game. Marianne Hernandez headed the ball down into the corner off a pass from Sarah Bayhi.
In the 10th minute, Rebekah Kensing intercepted a pass and played it to Ellis Patterson, who kicked the ball up for Olivia Nicholls to head the ball over the keeper and into the net.
The remainder of the game was battle for the ball, but the UTSA defense stepped up to keep Charlotte from scoring. Senior keeper Michelle Cole had eight saves on the day and captured her fifth shut out of the season.
The Roadrunners return to the field on Friday for the final match of the season when they host UTEP. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
