Kidd leads UTSA to fifth place at Maryb S. Kauth Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — Madison Kidd posted her fifth career top-20 finish to lead the UTSA women's golf team to a fifth-place showing at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational, which wrapped up Tuesday at TPC San Antonio's AT&T Canyons Course (par 72/6,233 yards).

Kidd tied for 18th, her top finish of the season, to pace the Roadrunners to their third top-five effort this fall. She posted a 77 in the final round, which was played with temperatures in the 40s and intermittent rain. The junior from Lake Jackson, Texas, birdied the 154-yard, par-3 eighth and the 495-yard, par-5 12th to close out a 151 for the event.

A trio of Roadrunners — Ana Gonzalez, Julie Houston and Katia Mexsen — finished in a tie for 20th place at 152 in the tournament that was reduced to 36 holes due to the cancellation of Monday's round.

Gonzalez turned in a 71 in Sunday's round and followed that with an 81 on Tuesday that featured a birdie on No. 12 en route to her third top 20 of the season.

Houston carded a 78 that was highlighted by a birdie on the 501-yard, par-5 15th after registering a 74 in the opening round.  The senior from Allen, Texas, now has matched Gonzalez with three top 20s this fall.

After opening with a 75 on Sunday, Mexsen wrote down birdies on Nos. 14 and 17 en route to a 77 on Tuesday en route to the top finish of her freshman campaign.

Fellow freshman Hannah Holzmann rounded out the UTSA lineup in a tie for 36th with a 72-84—156.

The Roadrunners posted a 604 (291-313) to finish in fifth, one shot ahead of North Texas and seven in front of Oral Roberts. UTSA was just five strokes behind fourth-place Houston (599).

Competing as an individual, Brooke Nolte fired a 72-82—154 to tie for 28th.

TCU captured the team title with a 581, while Marshall (588) edged Tennessee (599) for second place.

There was a three-way tie for individual medalist honors at 1-under-par 143 between TCU's Sabrina Iqbal and the Marshall duo of Shelby Brauckmuller and Kerri Parks.

The Roadrunners will return to action on Oct. 29-31 when they travel to Dallas for the Trinity Forest Invitational.
