Smith and Flores pace Roadrunners at Arturo Barrios Invitational

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The UTSA cross country programs completed their fourth events of the season on Saturday at the Texas A&M-hosted Arturo Barrios Invitational. The Roadrunner men were led by Jake Smith in the 8k race, while Olivia Flores was the top UTSA woman in the 6k event.
 
The Roadrunner men scored 23rd in the 28-team field with 644 points, placing ahead of Baylor, TCU, Prairie View A&M, Houston Baptist and Texas Southern.
 
Smith, a freshman, posted an 8k personal-best of 26:31.8 to place 115th. He was followed by Martin Luevano, a junior, with a season-best time of 26:35.1 in 121st. Mathew David, a sophomore, ran a 27:06.2 to place 150th. Junior Peter Sepulveda clocked a 27:20.7 to place 159th and freshman Christopher Wise ran a 27:30.4 to cross the line 165th and round out the UTSA counters. Sophomores Josh Rodriguez (187th / 28:04.9) and Christian Castellanos (192nd / 28:10.9) were the Roadrunners' placers.
 
Mason Lischka, a freshman, ran a 28:18.7 to place 199th he was followed across the line by Hunter Hawkins (209th / 28:56.3), Luca Chatham (211th / 29:12.0), Mason Riley (215th / 29:19.3) and Omar Bekdache (220th / 30:14.5).
 
The UTSA women totaled 697 points to place 23rd on the team leaderboard.
 
Flores, a junior, paced the squad with a 23:45.0 to place 151st overall. Fellow junior Colleen Gilbert placed 155th with a season-best 23:54.0. Freshman Briana Gonzalez ran a personal-best 24:06.0 to place 168th and senior Charlette Janicek a season-best 24:59.8 to place 185th. Marissa Martinez, a freshman, rounded out the team's scorers with a 25:10.0 to cross the finish line 191st. Frosh newcomers Brooke Lomax (192nd / 25:10.5) and Abigail Behring (193rd / 25:15.5) were moments behind Martinez to count as UTSA's placers.
 
Rounding out the Roadrunner competitors were Rian Rodriguez (198th / 25:27.2), Abby Balli (203rd / 25:50.6) and Chloe Munoz (27:25.9). All three times were season bests.
