Gonzalez guides UTSA to eighth place at Ron Moore Intercollegiate

LITTLETON, Colo. — Ana Gonzalez tied for 24th place to guide the UTSA women's golf team to an eighth-place finish at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate, which wrapped up Sunday at Highlands Ranch Golf Club (par 72/6,513 yards).
 
Gonzalez fired a 1-under-par 71 in the final round to close out a 7-over 223 (74-78-71), good for a tie for 24th as the Roadrunners' top finisher in the 54-hole event. The sophomore from Monterrey, Mexico, wrote down five birdies on Sunday, including three as part of a 35 on the front nine.
 
UTSA carded a 1-over 289 and finished eighth with an 896 (296-311-289) in the 16-team field. The Roadrunners were four shots in front of host Denver and five better than Minnesota, and they were just four strokes behind seventh-place Wyoming.
 
Hannah Holzmann carded an even-par 72 to move into a tie for 33rd at 9-over 225. After opening with a 74 and a 79, the freshman from San Antonio used a trio of birdies on Sunday to jump up the individual leaderboard.
 
Julie Houston and Madison Kidd settled into a tie for 37th after each finished at 10-over 226. Houston posted a final-round 73 that featured a pair of birdies after turning in a 75-78—153 on the first two days. Kidd registered a 75 to close out her tournament that included rounds of 73 and 78 on Friday and Saturday.
 
Katia Mexsen provided one of the counting scores for the final round with her 1-over 73 on the strength of three birdies. That scorecard moved the freshman into a tie for 64th (81-77-73—231).
 
Colorado State captured the team title with a 4-under 860 behind individual medalist Ellen Secor's 3-under 213. The Rams were followed by Ole Miss (871), UC Davis (875), Kansas (883) and Tulsa (885) in the top five.
 
The Roadrunners will return home and host the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational on Sunday-Tuesday, Oct. 14-16, at TPC San Antonio's Canyons Course.
