LITTLETON, Colo. — The UTSA women's golf team is in a tie for fourth place after the opening day of the Ron Moore Intercollegiate, which teed off on Friday at Highlands Ranch Golf Club (par 72/6,513 yards).
The Roadrunners carded an 8-over-par 296 in the first round and are in a tie with UC Davis in the 16-team field. UTSA is just one shot behind Washington State for third and five back of second-place Kansas (291). Colorado State sits atop the team standings after posting a 2-under 286.
Individually, Madison Kidd fired a 1-over 73 that was highlighted by birdies on the par-4 eighth and par-5 18th. The junior from Lake Jackson, Texas, is in a six-way tie for 11th place with 36 holes left to play, three shots off the 2-under-par pace set by Colorado State's Saga Traustadottir and Washington State's Amy Chu.
Ana Gonzalez and Hannah Holzmann are in a tie for 17th place, one shot behind their teammate. Gonzalez posted a 2-over 74 that featured birdie-four on No. 18, while Holzmann wrote down birdies on the par-5 ninth and par-5 18th en route to her 74.
Julie Houston is in a tie for 27th after turning in a 75 that also included a birdie on the 18th.
Katia Mexsen rounded out the lineup with an 81 and is tied for 83rd.
The second round is scheduled for Saturday.
