Men's tennis to play at No. 8 Texas, host Denver this weekend

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA will play two matches this weekend, including a road trip to No. 8 Texas at 12 p.m. Friday. The Roadrunners also will host Denver in the home opener at 11 a.m. Sunday at the UTSA Tennis Center.

UTSA (0-1) is coming off a 4-2 loss at 24th-ranked Texas Tech in Monday's season opener.

Juri Reckow and Kai Breitbach each earned wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 singles spots, respectively. Reckow rallied from a set down to upend his opponent, while Breitbach posted wins in the first and third sets to claim the two points for the Roadrunners.

SCOUTING TEXAS
The Longhorns (0-0) will open their dual-match season on Friday against UTSA. Texas posted a 22-9 overall record a year ago and reached the NCAA Championship Quarterfinals.

LAST MEETING WITH TEXAS
The Roadrunners and Longhorns also met last season in Austin, as Texas claimed a 7-0 victory on Jan. 12, 2017.

SCOUTING DENVER
The Pioneers (0-0) will begin their spring campaign on Friday at Lamar before heading to San Antonio to face UTSA. Denver tallied a 13-13 record last season and won its fourth consecutive Summit League title. The Pioneers suffered a 4-0 loss to USC in the NCAA Championship First Round.

LAST MEETING WITH DENVER
The two teams met last season in Denver, as the Pioneers netted a 4-0 victory against the Roadrunners.

UP NEXT
Following UTSA's home opener on Sunday, the Roadrunners will travel to Tennessee for a pair of matches next week. The Birds will face Belmont on Saturday, Jan. 27 in Nashville, Tenn., before traveling to Murfreesboro, Tenn., to square off with Middle Tennessee a day later.
