UTSA to host Lone Star Invitational on Monday-Tuesday at TPC San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men's golf team will open the 2018-19 season when it hosts the Lone Star Invitational on Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 10-11, at TPC San Antonio's AT&T Oaks Course (par 72/7,435 yards). Admission is free.

This will mark the 10th playing of the Lone Star Invitational, which is moving permanently from March to September this year and to its new course, which also serves as the site of the PGA TOUR's Valero Texas Open.

The Roadrunners will compete against Arkansas State, Lipscomb, Little Rock, Louisiana, McNeese State, North Texas, Rice, Sam Houston State, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Texas State, ULM, UT Arlington and UTEP. The field will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start each day. UTSA head coach John Knauer welcomes back five veterans from last year's squad that registered five top-five finishes, including capturing the Wyoming Cowboy Classic title in April.

Headlining the list of returnees is Sean Meehan, the team's lone senior. The San Antonio native posted a 73.33 stroke average last season and won his first collegiate tournament with an 11-under-par 205 (70-67-68) at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic.

The junior duo of Collin Clark and Adam House also returns. Clark, a native of Mansfield, turned in a 75.33 average and a career-best runner-up finish at the Arizona Medalist Intercollegiate as a sophomore. House, who hails from Rockwall, posted a 75.36 average and a top finish of 11th at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic last season.

Sophomores Michael Rome and Chad Sewell were mainstays in the UTSA lineup during the 2017-18 season. Rome, an Austin Westlake High School product, was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team after ranking third on the team with a 73.64 stroke average. Sewell, a Conroe native, posted a 74.97 average in his debut campaign.

That quintet will be joined by a pair of newcomers in Will Adams, an all-state performer at Odessa Permian High School, and Christian Fanfelle, an AJGA fully-exempt golfer for the last three years.

The Roadrunners finished eighth at the last Lone Star Invitational, which was in March at Briggs Ranch Golf Club. Zander Lozano tied for eighth with a 1-under 215 (72-72-71) to pace the Birds, while Rome tied for 24th with a 220 (72-72-76).
