BEAUMONT – After a one hour lightning delay, the UTSA soccer team fell short to Lamar, 4-3, in a tough overtime game Friday night.
In the first half, Ellis Patterson scored the lone goal for the Roadrunners (3-3) in the 14th minute with a rebound off a deflection of a shot from Lexi Bolton.
The Cardinals (4-3) pulled ahead with two goals by Juliana Ocampo in the 23rd and 33rd minutes of the game.
Lamar's Hailey Loupe closed out the first half with a goal in the 41st minute off a pass from Madison Ledet.
The second half started off slow until the 69th minute when Melissa Finley captured her first goal of the season with a header off a pass from Rebekah Kensing.
Katie Becker tied up the game in the final minutes of the game with a header in the 87th minute to force the game to overtime.
Once again, Juliana Ocampo found the net as the Cardinals took the win.
UTSA returns to the field on Sunday at Incarnate Word. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
