Meehan leads UTSA to eighth place at Trinity Forest Invitational

DALLAS — Sean Meehan finished in a tie for 15th place to lead the UTSA men's golf team to an eight-place showing at the Trinity Forest Invitational, which wrapped up Tuesday at Trinity Forest Golf Club (par 71/7,330 yards).

Meehan fired a 3-under-par 68 in the final round to help lead the Roadrunners to a 5-under 279 on Tuesday. The senior's Tuesday scorecard was bogey-free and featured birdies on the 560-yard, par-5 first, the 570-yard, par-5 seventh and the 205-yard, par-3 12th. Meehan, a San Antonio Johnson High product, had 10 birdies for the event and finished in a three-way tie for 15th at 5-under 208 (69-71-68) for the fifth top-20 finish in his last six tournaments.

Meanwhile, two other Roadrunners also posted red numbers in the final round, as Collin Clark and Adam House both turned in a 1-under 70.

Clark wrote down back-to-back birdies on Nos. 7 and 8 to counter one bogey, and the junior from Mansfield finished in a tie for 35th place at 2-over 215 (71-74-70). 

House recorded a trio of birdies, including two straight on Nos. 1 and 2, and the junior from Rockwall ended up tied for 56th with a 219 (75-74-70).

Michael Rome was the second-highest finisher on the team, as the sophomore settled into a tie for 32nd with a 1-over 214 (73-70-71). The Austin native had three birdies in his final-round 71 and finished with 10, matching Meehan for the top number during the tournament.

Chad Sewell tied for 45th with a 217 (71-72-74). The sophomore from Conroe had seven birdies and a tournament-best two eagles during the event.

UTSA finished the 54-hole event at 2-under 850 (284-287-279), seven shots ahead of Sam Houston State and just two behind New Mexico.

Competing as an individual, Christian Fanfelle tied for 75th with a 227 (71-77-79).

Baylor captured the team title with an 824, followed by host SMU (825), College of Charleston (833), Florida (834) and North Texas (836) in the top five.

The Roadrunners will return to the course on Oct. 6-8 when they compete in the Maridoe Intercollegiate in Carrollton, Texas.
