Soccer falls to Rice, 3-1

HOUSTON – UTSA soccer dropped a 3-1 decision at Rice Sunday evening.
 
The Roadrunners (4-4-1) fell to 0-1-1 in C-USA action as the Owls (3-5-1) improved to 1-1-0.
 


Rice took the first goal of the game in the 14th minute from a penalty shot after a handball in the box. 
 
In the 16th minute, the Owls scored another goal bringing the lead to 2-0.
 
Marianne Hernandez made her 13th shot of the season, but the ball was slightly high as it bounced off the crossbar and back on to the field in the 28th minute of the game.
 
The duo of Lexi Bolton and Ellis Patterson scored another UTSA goal in the 60th minute. Bolton passed the ball up field to Patterson who passed it back and Bolton shot the ball right passed the keeper.  
 
In the 87th minute, Marissa Topolski scored the third goal for Rice when she went against Michelle Cole and won to find the far post.
 
Melissa Finley, Katieann Lochte, Rebakah Kensing, Marianne Hernandez, Ellis Patterson, Brittany von Schneidau, Channing Machen, Lexi Bolton and Sarah Bayhi all had shots for the Roadrunners. 
 
UTSA returns to the field on Sept. 23 for a match at North Texas. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
