UTSA captures Lady Maxwell Invitational crown

ARDMORE, Okla. — Led by three top-10 finishers, the UTSA women's golf team won the Lady Maxwell Invitational team title on Sunday at Dornick Hills Golf & Country Club (par 71/6,037 yards).

The Roadrunners carded their second straight 7-over-par 291 and finished the 54-hole tournament with an 876 for an eight-shot win ahead of Sam Houston State (884). Oral Roberts grabbed third place in the eight-team field with an 887.

Individually, Hannah Holzmann finished as runner-up in her first collegiate event, while Julie Houston and Ana Gonzalez tied for fourth and seventh, respectively, to lead UTSA to its second team title in its last three outings dating back to the 2018 Conference USA Championship in April.

"We are proud of the team this week," head coach Summer Batiste said. "Playing with a lead is never easy and they all handled their games very well today. It feels good to kick the season off with a win. We came here with the intention of winning and I am very pleased that we got it done this week."

Holzmann entered the final round in first place after recording rounds of 69 and 71 through the first two days. The freshman from San Antonio posted a 75 in the final round and secured second place with a 2-over 215, just one shot behind individual medalist Jenna Phillips of Sam Houston State, who turned in a 214 (72-72-70).

Houston tied for fourth place with a 5-over 218, marking the senior's eighth top-five finish of her UTSA career. The Allen native and reigning C-USA individual champion registered a 73 in the final round after starting the tournament with a 73-72—145 on Friday and Saturday.

Meanwhile, Gonzalez posted the Roadrunners' best round of the tournament and low round of the day among all competitors with a 3-under 68. The sophomore from Monterrey, Mexico, moved into a tie for seventh at 8-over 221 for her third career top 10.

Brooke Nolte turned in her second consecutive 76 and finished in a tie for 16th with a 229, while Madison Kidd rounded out the UTSA lineup in a tie for 23rd after posting a 231 (84-72-75).

The Roadrunners will return to action on Sept. 16-18 when they travel to Knoxville, Tenn., for the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship.
