SAN ANTONIO – Katieann Lochte scored the game-winning goal in the 94th minute to lead UTSA to a 2-1 victory over Grand Canyon on Sunday afternoon at Park West Athletics Complex.
Lochte lofted a shot from the far side of the field and the ball found its way inside the far post to secure a victory for the Roadrunners (3-2) in their home opener.
UTSA struck first, as Ellis Patterson headed in a crossing pass from Melissa Finley in the 17th minute.
The Roadrunners' scoring attack started with Lexi Bolton playing the ball up the near sideline to Finley, who used her left foot to send the pass into the box.
The Lopes (1-5) pulled even in the 27th minute when Remmie Deutsch took possession of a 50-50 ball in the box and then scored amidst some congestion.
UTSA nearly took the lead in the 74th minute, as Channing Machen drove a shot that GCU goalkeeper Abby Burton pushed over the top of the crossbar.
Neither team was able to find the goal in the final 16 minutes before regulation ended.
The Roadrunners then picked up the decisive goal from Lochte just over three minutes into the overtime session.
UTSA will return to the road on Friday, Sept. 7. The Roadrunners will travel to Beaumont for a non-conference tilt against Lamar. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
