Colorado shuts out UTSA on Friday

BOULDER, Colo. – Colorado picked up three scores in the second half en route to a 4-0 victory over UTSA on Friday at Prentup Field.

The Roadrunners (2-2) had seven shots on the day, six of which came in the first half.

Meanwhile, the Buffaloes (3-0-1) attempted 21 shots and put six on target.

UTSA pushed the tempo to start the match, as Ellis Patterson had back-to-back shots on goal in the fourth minute. The sophomore received the ball near the top of the box and took a shot that was deflected by Colorado goalkeeper Scout Watson. The ball then hit off the crossbar and was knocked back toward Patterson who took another shot, but again Watson was there to make the save.

Tatum Barton broke the scoring seal in the 17th minute to put the Buffaloes on top.

Barton found the ball at her feet in the box and sent it inside the far post for the first score of the match.

Barton struck again in the 58th minute.

After the Roadrunners blocked a shot, the ball landed near Jorian Baucom, who lofted a pass in the box and Barton guided it into the back of the net with her head.

Nineteen minutes later, Baucom scored to push the lead to 3-0.

The final score of the match was an own goal that allowed Colorado to finish with a four-score advantage.

UTSA, which wrapped up its season-opening four-match road trip, will return to San Antonio to host Grand Canyon in its home opener on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Park West Athletics Complex.
