UTSA to tee off season this weekend at Lady Maxwell Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will tee off the 2018-19 season this Friday-Sunday, Aug. 31-Sept. 2, when they travel to Ardmore, Okla., for the Lady Maxwell Invitational hosted by Oral Roberts at Dornick Hills Golf & Country Club (par 71/6,037 yards).

The Roadrunners will compete against Missouri State, Oral Roberts, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas State, Troy and UT Arlington.

The field will play 18 holes each day with tee times beginning at 12:30 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Live scoring will not be available for this event.

Second-year head coach Summer Batiste, the 2018 Conference USA Coach of the Year, welcomes back three veterans — Ana Gonzales, Julie Houston and Madison Kidd — from a squad that won the C-USA USA title and advanced to the program's fourth NCAA postseason appearance, where they finished 12th at the Austin Regional in May.

Houston, a senior, headlines the list of returnees. The Allen, Texas, native captured the C-USA individual crown with a 4-under-par 212 (73-70-69) to lead the Roadrunners to their third overall league championship. A first-team all-conference selection, she registered four top-10 finishes and ranked second on the team with a 73.91 stroke average last season.

Gonzalez was named the 2018 C-USA Freshman of the Year and second-team all-conference in 2017-18 after leading UTSA with a 73.89 average. The Monterrey, Mexico, native was the conference runner-up behind Houston and she also finished second at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship after recording a school-record 8-under 205 (70-67-68) last September.

Kidd played in all 12 tournaments during her sophomore season and posted a 77.12 average. The Lake Jackson, Texas, native registered a pair of top-10 finishes, including a tie for seventh place with a 219 (73-73-73) at the Texas State Invitational, which led to a C-USA Golfer of the Week accolade.

Batiste brought in three newcomers this season in junior transfer Brooke Nolte and freshmen Hannah Holzmann and Katia Mexsen.
