Texas State downs UTSA on Sunday night, 1-0

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Kaylee Davis scored the lone goal in the 88th minute and helped Texas State to a 1-0 victory over UTSA on Sunday evening at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

The Bobcats (1-1) pushed up the right side of the field, as Genesis Turman and Haley Groff passed the ball to Davis, who used a right-footed strike to find the back of the net.

The Roadrunners (1-1) suffered their first loss of the season despite posted a 16-8 advantage in shot attempts, including a 7-3 margin in shots on goal.

Lexi Bolton led the Birds with three shot attempts, including two on goal. The freshman put a left-footed attempt on goal in the 85th minute, but Texas State goalkeeper Heather Martin smothered the shot.

Martin finished the contest with seven saves.

Meanwhile, Michelle Cole stopped two shots for the Roadrunners.

UTSA will continue its season-opening four-match road trip with a stop at Oral Roberts (2-0) on Friday, Aug. 24. The non-conference tilt is slated for a 7 p.m. start at the Case Soccer Complex in Tulsa, Okla.
