SAN ANTONIO — Former UTSA wide receiver Josh Stewart has signed a contract to play for the Alliance of American Football's San Antonio franchise.
Stewart is the first Roadrunner to ink a deal with the new league's local team, which is led by general manager Daryl Johnston and head coach Mike Riley.
Stewart led UTSA in receiving yards in each of his final two seasons and he finished his career ranked third on the program's all-time receiving yards list with 1,200. He holds the school record for career receiving yards per game (50.0) and he stands second all-time with eight receiving touchdowns and third with 16.0 yards per reception.
As a junior in 2016, the College Station native hauled in 36 passes for a school-record 682 yards and five touchdowns en route to honorable mention All-Conference USA accolades. Stewart registered a pair of 100-yard games, including a career-best 113 on seven catches against Louisiana Tech, which ranks as the third-best total in school annals.
Stewart led UTSA with 518 receiving yards on 39 catches as a senior in 2017. He averaged 13.3 yards per reception and scored three TDs and he posted his third career 100-yard outing with 101 yards and a score on five catches versus Southern Miss.
Founded by TV and film producer Charlie Ebersol and Hall of Famer Bill Polian, The Alliance of American Football features eight teams under a single entity structure playing a 12-week season, which will kick off on Feb. 9, 2019, and culminate with the championship game the weekend of April 26-28, 2019.
