SAN ANTONIO - A flurry of lightning strikes in the San Antonio area ended UTSA's final exhibition contest in the 58th minute on Sunday evening. The Roadrunners and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi mutually agreed to end the tilt after the game was halted due to a strike within the eight-mile radius. The contest finished with a 1-1 score.
UTSA started the scoring in the fifth minute after an early onslaught of attacks.
Jordyn Lacy found her way into the box and launched a shot that ricocheted off of the right post. Chandler Jackson was on the run from her defensive position and saw the rebound coming toward her. Jackson needed only one touch to score on an empty net.
The Islanders tied the contest in the 27th minute off a corner kick service by Emily Keoughan that was placed in the center of the box and headed in the net by Hanleigh Allen.
Both teams were kept from scoring the rest of the way.
The Roadrunners finished the night with a 9-7 edge in total shots, while both teams put four on target.
Michelle Cole posted three saves for the Birds.
UTSA will turn its attention toward the regular-season opener, which is slated for Aug. 17 at Northwestern State.
