Roadrunner trio set to compete at NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA men's track & field student-athletes Ty Anderson, Patrick Prince and Adrian Riley are set to compete at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., Wed., June 6 through Fri., June 8 at Hayward Field.   
 
The Event
The 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships feature the top 24 men and women individuals in each event along with the top 12 men's and women's relays in the NCAA competing for the right to call themselves national champions. The winners of each individual event will be crowned individual national champions, while the top scoring men's and women's programs will earn NCAA team national titles.
 
In addition, the top eight finishers in each event will earn U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) first team All-American honors, finishers 9-16 pick up second team recognition and those placing 17-24 honorable mention nods.
 
Competing Roadrunners
Riley, a senior, will be the first Roadrunner to compete as he opens the first day of the decathlon (11m, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400m) Wednesday afternoon. The Jamaican, who is making his second trip to Eugene after earning honorable mention All-American honors in the long jump last season, is seeded 16th in the decathlon with his season and personal-best score of 7,576 points coming at the Conference USA Championships in May. Riley will conclude the decathlon on Thursday with the 110m hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500m.
 
Prince will also compete on Wednesday as he enters the starting blocks for the semifinal of the 110m hurdles. Prince, a junior from Conroe, Texas, earned his way to his first NCAA Championships by clocking a 13.78 to place eighth in the event's quarterfinal at the West Preliminary Round. The two-time defending C-USA 110m hurdles champion will compete in the first of three heats with the top two finishers in each heat and the next two fastest times advancing to Friday's final.
 
Anderson is making his second NCAA Championships appearance in the high jump. As a sophomore he placed 12th in 2016 to earn second team All-American honors. The senior qualified for the Championships by way of tying for 10th with a height of 2.11m at the West Preliminary, then cleared 2.12m and 2.14m on his first attempts in a jump off to claim the West's 12th and final qualifying ticket.
