SAN ANTONIO – UTSA softball's Bailee Baldwin was named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division I Softball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Monday. Majoring in criminal justice, Baldwin earned a 3.95 this past year.
Earning second-team honors, Baldwin was one of three Conference USA student-athletes selected to the 33-person squad. The Mansfield, Texas native joins Charlotte's first-team honoree Haley Pace and second-team member Bailee Rhoney.
Baldwin, a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-South Region second-team selection, became just the second UTSA softball player to garner an Academic All-America nod. She joins former UTSA standout Jessica Rogers, who claimed first-team honors in 2005 and a third-team recognition in 2007.
Her selection also gives UTSA 19 Academic All-America awards since 1999 and is the first since UTSA football's Nate Leonard in 2014.
Behind a stellar junior campaign, Baldwin guided the Roadrunners to 20 wins this past season setting career highs in home runs (19), RBIs (41), runs (43), hits (55), doubles (11), and stolen bases (8).
Baldwin's 19 home runs rank tenth in the NCAA and tie former Roadrunners Randee Crawford, Amanda Horton and Amanda Michalsky for the fourth-most in a single season. She ended the season with a three-run, walk-off homer to lift the Roadrunners past Florida Atlantic, 4-3, in the season finale.
Baldwin also led the team with a career-best .362 batting average with a squad-high 17 multiple-hit games and 11 multi-RBI contests. Playing in all of UTSA's 50 games this season at center field, Baldwin accumulated a .992 fielding percentage and counted five assists.
Earlier this season, Baldwin was selected to the Google Cloud Academic All-District 7 first-team. Baldwin then advanced to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot where she was selected for All-America recognition.
