Brookover earns Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarship from Conference USA

IRVING – Conference USA Commissioner Judy MacLeod named the 14 recipients of the Jim Castañeda Postgraduate Scholarship on Wednesday and former UTSA baseball player Ben Brookover was one of the honorees. The conference annually awards the $4,000 postgraduate scholarships to student-athletes selected by the C-USA Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the Board of Directors.

Brookover, a four-year member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll, received his bachelor's degree in business management from UTSA last month. A local product out of Reagan High School, he was voted a team co-captain during the 2018 campaign, in which he hit .311 with 13 doubles, two triples, seven home runs and 47 RBIs.

Brookover appeared in 175 games over four seasons in a Roadrunner uniform. He also was a three-time UTSA Honor Roll member.

This is the 10th year the award has been named for Dr. Castañeda, who served Rice University for 46 years as an educator, coach and faculty athletics representative before passing away in November 2008.
