Kirby named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week

IRVING – UTSA senior Chance Kirby has been named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.

The right-hander led the Roadrunners to a 7-0 victory against Rice in Sunday's series finale in San Antonio. Kirby hurled 7.1 scoreless, allowing only four hits (two of which were infield singles). He struck out a career-high 13, one shy of the program's single-game mark set by Eric Montoya on Feb. 20, 2000, against Texas-Pan American.

Kirby threw 114 pitches, 76 of which found the strike zone. He also allowed only one Rice baserunner to reach scoring position on the way to his fourth win of the season.

Kirby is 4-4 with a 2.94 ERA in 49 innings over 10 starts. He has amassed a team-high 56 strikeouts, while walking only 14 batters and limiting opposing hitters to a .206 batting average.

UTSA returns to action this weekend at Old Dominion. The three-game league series is slated to open at 5 p.m. (CT) at Bud Metheny Complex in Norfolk, Va.
