Anderson and Prince punch tickets to NCAA Championships
 
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – UTSA track & field's high jumper Ty Anderson and 110m hurdler Patrick Prince placed among the top-12 of their respective events on the final day of the 2018 NCAA West Preliminary on Saturday to earn their way to the 2018 NCAA National Championships.
 
HURDLES
Prince, a junior, who ran an advancing time of 13.95 in the men's 110m hurdles first round, clocked a 13.78 in Saturday's quarterfinal. The time was good for third in his heat, which automatically advanced the Conroe, Texas, native to Eugene for the first time in his career. Overall, the two-time defending Conference USA Champion placed eighth in the 24-man field.  
 


JUMPS
Anderson, a senior from Luling, Texas, punched his ticket to his second NCAA National Championship meet by way of a jump off after tying initially tying for 10th. Anderson cleared the first three heights (2.01m, 2.06m and 2.11m) on his first efforts before failing to cover 2.16m. In the jump off he missed at 2.16m and 2.14m before clearing 2.12m and 2.14m to earn the 12th and final qualifying spot.
 


Junior Davante Edwards, a native of Ennis, Texas, high jumped 2.11m on his second attempt at the height to tie for 20th overall. He bested the 2.01m opening height and the 2.06m second height on his first attempts. Quillan Haughton, a freshman, finished the high jump with a personal-record leap of 2.11m to tie for 25th. He cleared the 2.11m bar on his third attempt at the height after making it over the 2.01m opening height and 2.06m second height on his first efforts.
 


In the women's triple jump freshman Danielle Spence placed 27th in the 48-member field with a best leap of 12.60m. Spence, a native of Jamaica, covered her placing distance on her third and final time down the runway. She jumped 12.46m on her first attempt, then fouled on her second before converting the 12.60m leap.
 


Andre Douglas placed 27th in the men's triple jump with a final best distance of 15.15m. The Jamaican freshman cleared the distance on his first attempt of the day. He leapt 14.91m on his second attempt and 15.05m on his third.
 


RELAYS
The men's 4x400m relay quartet of Austin Crocker, Desmond Jefferson, Byron Taylor and Vasha Sheriff complete the 1,600m distance in 3:08.40 to place 19th among the 24-team field.
 


UTSA'S NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIERS
UTSA will be represented at the 2018 NCAA National Championships at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., by decathlete Adrian Riley, high jumper Ty Anderson and 110m hurdler Patrick Prince. The championship meet will be contested June 6-9 at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
