BILOXI, Miss. – Charlotte scored runs in four different innings, including a five-run seventh, to defeat UTSA in an elimination game during the Conference USA Championship on Saturday morning at MGM Park.
The Roadrunners (32-24) received their only runs in the third inning when Trent Bowles connected for a grand slam.
The 49ers (33-23) picked up a tally in the fifth to pull within one. Charlotte then took advantage of an error in the sixth to score a pair of unearned runs and take a 5-4 advantage.
All nine batters came to the plate for the 49ers in the seventh, as the tournament's fourth seed scored five times to pull away.
Jonah Patten (4-1) earned the win in relief after limiting UTSA to just three hits in the final five innings.
Meanwhile, Palmer Wenzel (6-2) was saddled with the loss after allowing a pair of unearned runs in 1.1 frames.
