Three Roadrunners named to C-USA track & field all-academic teams

IRVING, Texas – UTSA outdoor track & field student-athletes Gabriyella Torres, Derek Fenton and John von Dohlen have been named to the 2018 InTouch Credit Union Conference USA Track & Field All-Academic Teams.
 
Torres garnered a spot on the women's team as she recently earned a degree in business administration from UTSA, while boasting a 3.96 GPA. The Port Isabel, Texas, native is a three-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and Academic Medal recipient. She was named the Feb. 6 C-USA Indoor Track & Field Female Field Athlete of the Week after placing third in the pentathlon at the Charlie Thomas Invitational with personal-best 3,692 points. She placed fifth in the pentathlon and seventh in the high jump at the C-USA Indoor Championships and most recently placed fourth in the heptathlon, seventh in the long jump, ninth in the high jump and 10th in the javelin at the C-USA Outdoor Championships.
 
Fenton received his bachelor's degree in economics from UTSA in early May. The San Clemente, Calif, native carried a 3.59 GPA and earned two C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll certificates. This year he placed fifth in the shot put at the C-USA Indoor Championships. During the outdoor season, he totaled seven top-five meet finishes in the shot put, including a win at the UTSA Invitational. He closed the season with a bronze medal in the shot put and a sixth-place finish in the discus at the C-USA Outdoor Championships.
 
Von Dohlen graduated from UTSA with a degree in marketing in December 2017, earning magna cum laude with his 3.95 GPA. A native of Goliad, Texas, von Dohlen is a four-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and Academic Medal recipient. This indoor season he completed in the mile, 3,000m and 5,000m events. During the outdoor season he won the 3,000m steeplechase at the Bobcat Classic and placed ninth in the event at the C-USA Outdoor Championships.
