UTSA blasts four homers in 14-1 rout of Texas A&M-Corpus Christ on Tuesday

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA hit four home runs and used three big innings to defeat Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a 14-1, run-rule victory in seven innings on Tuesday night at Roadrunner Field.

The Roadrunners (25-18) scored four runs in the third and five in the fifth and sixth innings on their way to the series sweep of the Islanders (21-25).

Trent Bowles hit his sixth and seventh home runs of the campaign to lead the way. The senior outfielder belted a three-run shot in the third inning that gave UTSA a 4-0 lead.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi picked up its only run in the top of the fifth, as Scott Balfantz blooped a single into center field that allowed Thomas Jeffries IV to score from second base.

The Roadrunners answered with power in the bottom of the frame.

After Tony Beam hit a double that plated both Bowles and Bryan Arias, Dylan Rock hammered a round-tripper over the wall in left field.

On the next pitch, Ryan Stacy blasted a solo round-tripper to the opposite field. It also marked his fourth home run since April 20.

In the sixth inning, Bowles turned on a 3-2 pitch and sent it past the left-field wall for his second homer of the game.

UTSA tacked on four more runs in the inning, including a three-run triple off the bat of Chase Keng.

Nathan Alexander (2-1) picked up the win on the mound, as the right-hander allowed only one run on three hits over five innings. He also fanned six on 68 pitches.

Cody Lecompte (1-2) took the loss after yielding four runs on three hits in four frames.

The Roadrunners will return to conference play this weekend against Rice. The three-game series is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Friday at Roadrunner Field.
