Monarchs even series with Roadrunners on Saturday

NORFOLK, Va. – Morgan Maguire twirled a five-hit shutout to lead Old Dominion to a 7-0 win over UTSA in the middle game of the Conference USA series on Saturday at Bud Metheny Complex.

Maguire (4-6) struck out seven, hit one batter but did not issue any walks while hurling 123 pitches (74 strikes).

The Monarchs (15-32, 7-18 C-USA) picked up single runs in both the third and fifth innings against Roadrunner starter Steven Dressler. ODU then put some insurance runs on the board in the seventh, scoring three times. Culver Lamb added a two-run homer in the eighth to cap the scoring.

Dressler (5-3) took the loss after giving up two runs on nine hits in 4.2 innings.

UTSA (27-21, 13-12 C-USA) received two hits apiece from Dylan Rock and Chris Estrada.

The rubber match is scheduled for 10 a.m. (CT) Sunday.
