HOUSTON – Adrian Riley and Gabriyella Torres led UTSA's multis efforts in the opening day of the 2018 Conference USA Championships, contested at Rice University's Wendel D. Ley Stadium.
Multis
After five events in the decathlon Riley is second on the leaderboard with 4,077 points. Riley, a native Jamaican, scored 975 points in the long jump with an impressive distance of 7.66m. The senior collected 867 points in the 100m dash (10.97), 824 in the 200m with a PR of 49.80, 758 in the high jump (1.95m) and 653 in the shot put (12.77m). Sophomore Jake McDaniel sits fifth in the event with 3,496 tallies. The Houston native counted 785 points in the high jump after a clearance of 1.98m. He also netted 725 points in the long jump (6.62m), 697 in the 100m (11.77), 719 in the 400m with a PR (52.14) and 570 in the shot put (11.40m).
Through four events in the heptathlon UTSA's Torres is fifth with 2,990 points. Torres collected 858 points in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.88. The junior from Port Isabel, Texas, totaled 842 points in the high jump (1.69m), 741 in the 200m dash (26.65) and 549 in the shot put (10.30m). Sophomore Chase Whiting tallied 2,635 points and is 13th in the field. Her top points-scoring event was the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.13 for 825 points. She collected 756 markers in the 200m (26.48), 566 in the high jump (1.45m) and 488 in the shot put (9.37m).
Championship schedule
Friday gets started with the men's hammer throw at 2 p.m. and wraps with the running of the women's 10,000m, which is slated for a 9 p.m. start time.
The men's discus is Saturday's first field event with a 3 p.m. start time. Field events will continue into the 7 p.m. hour, concluding with the women's high jump. Track events on Saturday start at 5:30 p.m. with the men's 1,500m and conclude with the women's 3,000m steeplechase in the 9 p.m. hour.
The women's shot put opens Sunday's action at 3 p.m. The field events roll throughout the afternoon before wrapping up in the 7 p.m. hour with the women's javelin. The finals of the men's 4x100m relay starts the action on the track at 6 p.m. The 18 additional event finals will be contested over the next three hours before the women's 4x400m relay closes the championship.
Admission
All-session passes (all four days) will be sold on both Thursday and Friday with price points of $25 for adults and $15 for youth (ages 3-17). Individual day tickets are available for Saturday and Sunday with price points of $12 for adults and $7 for youth (3-17).
