Davenport signs contract with New Orleans Saints

SAN ANTONIO — Former UTSA standout and NFL first round draft pick Marcus Davenport officially signed his first contract with the New Orleans Saints, the franchise's Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced Thursday night.

The Saints selected Davenport, the 2017 Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year, with the 14th overall pick on April 26, making him the first Roadrunner to be drafted in the first round. He will report to the team's rookie minicamp, which runs Friday through Sunday.

A three-time all-conference selection, Davenport set UTSA career records for tackles for loss (38.0), sacks (22.0) and QB hurries (21). As a senior, he posted 55 tackles and set school records with 17.5 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks and eight quarterback hurries. The San Antonio Stevens High School product added four pass breakups, three forced fumbles and had a fumble return for a touchdown.
