UTSA holds off Marshall in Sunday’s series finale, 2-1

SAN ANTONIO - Junior Bailee Baldwin homered and senior Lizzy Fox went the distance in the circle as UTSA rallied for a 2-1 series-finale victory over Marshall on Sunday afternoon at Roadrunner Field.

Fox improved to 10-7 on the season after surrendering six hits and a walk with a strike out for the Roadrunners (16-18, 5-7 C-USA). Meanwhile, Abigail Tolbert dropped her eighth contest of the season for the Thundering Herd and fell to 8-8 after giving up two runs on six hits in six frames.

Marshall opened the scoring in the top of the second on a Briana Diass double to left field and a Roadrunner throwing error. With Diass on second and no outs, Blakely Burch reached on an overthrown pass, giving Diass enough time to round the bases.

That's where the score stood until Baldwin pushed across a two-run home run over the center field fence in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs, sophomore Celeste Loughman reached base on a double to center field and scored on Baldwin's home run. Baldwin now has 15 home runs on the season to lead the Roadrunners and Conference USA.

Marshall threatened in the top of the sixth with a runner reaching third, but UTSA stalled Marshall's momentum to claim the contest, 2-1.

The Roadrunners will be back in action for a 6 p.m. midweek game at Incarnate Word on Wednesday, April 11.
