Breitbach clinches UTSA win on Sunday

SAN ANTONIO – Kai Breitbach outlasted Sebastian Santibanez at No. 1 singles, and the UTSA men's tennis team captured a 4-3 victory over Lamar on Sunday at the UTSA Tennis Center.

Breitbach won the opening set, 6-4, and dropped the second frame by a 6-2 score. However, the sophomore logged a commanding 6-1 triumph in the third panel to claim the point and clinch the win for the Roadrunners (13-11).

UTSA jumped out in front after winning the doubles point.

However, the Cardinals (7-12) picked up tallies at Nos. 2 and 6 singles to take a 2-1 advantage.

Joao Ceolin then took care of Carlos Paton Canal in straight sets (6-0, 6-4) at the fifth position to even the match. Juri Reckow also put the Birds ahead by one with a 6-4, 6-4 decision at the third spot.

Lamar again pulled even when Nicolas Mayr won at the fourth spot, setting up the showdown at the top flight.

UTSA will begin preparing for the Conference USA Championship, which will be held April 20-22 at the George R. Brown Tennis Center in Houston.
