UTSA rides six-run sixth to even series with Middle Tennessee

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The UTSA baseball team scored six runs in the sixth inning of Saturday's game en route to an 11-1 victory over Middle Tennessee at Reese Smith Jr. Field.

The Roadrunners (23-18, 10-9 C-USA), who evened the series, jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first three frames behind a pair of home runs.

Ryan Stacy turned around Carson Lester's third offering of the game and hammered a solo shot over the wall in right field. Tony Beam made it 2-0 later in the panel on a sacrifice fly that allowed Trent Bowles to cross the plate.

Two stanzas later, Ben Brookover launched his seventh round-tripper of the campaign on the first pitch of his at-bat.

UTSA sent 10 batters to the plate during the sixth inning and scored six times. Five of the six runs came on two-out hits by Beam, Bowles, Brookover and Dylan Rock creating the separation the Roadrunners were looking for at the time.

Beam collected his second hit in the eighth inning, as the senior backstop drove in two more on another single to center field.

Meanwhile, Steven Dressler held the Blue Raider offense at bay. The left-hander scattered nine hits, seven of which were singles. His only mistake was a home run allowed to Ryan Kemp in the fourth inning.

Dressler (5-2) fanned two and did not allow a walk in his first complete game. It also marked the Roadrunners' first complete game of the season.

The first six batters in UTSA's lineup combined for 12 of the 13 hits in the contest.

Bowles had three knocks, scored three times and drove in two to lead the way. Beam was one of four others to register a pair of hits, as he extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

The rubber match of the series will be played at 1 p.m. Sunday.
