Baseball to face Incarnate Word on Tuesday night

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA baseball team will conclude its home stand on Tuesday in a non-conference contest against crosstown foe Incarnate Word. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Roadrunner Field. The game will be streamed live on the UTSA Athletics Facebook page.

The Roadrunners (21-17) won three of four games last week, including a series victory against FIU over the weekend. UTSA also defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 6-1, on the road last Tuesday.

Ben Brookover led the Birds to a 5-4, walk-off victory in 10 innings against the Panthers on Sunday. The senior first baseman tallied three extra-base hits, including a double in the 10th inning. After advancing to third base on a wild pitch, Brookover scored the winning run on Dylan Rock's single.

Brookover leads the team with six home runs and 37 RBIs, and ranks second on the squad with a .333 batting average. Bryan Arias is batting a team-best .338 to go along with 13 doubles, three triples, five home runs and 24 RBIs. The junior infielder also is slugging a team-high .554 and reached base at a .410 clip.

The Roadrunners will send junior right-hander Nathan Alexander to the mound for his fourth start of the season. Alexander received a no-decision in last Tuesday's contest against the Islanders after allowing only one run over 3.1 innings. In four appearances this spring, the Lake Jackson native is 0-1 with a 5.00 ERA and nine strikeouts in 9.0 stanzas.

The Cardinals (25-16) dropped all three games of their Southland Conference series at Houston Baptist last weekend. Incarnate Word enters the midweek tilt with a .306 batting average and a 4.28 ERA.

The Cardinals have not announced a starting pitcher.

Tuesday's game marks the 24th all-time meeting between the two programs, dating back to the 1992 campaign. UTSA holds a 13-10 advantage in the series, including a pair of wins last season. The Roadrunners posted a 16-0 victory at the Bird Bath on April 18, 2017, and then went across the city to claim a 9-4 win on May 10.
