CARROLLTON — Ana Gonzalez is tied for 20th place and the UTSA women's golf team is in 14th after the first day of the Bruzzy Challenge on Monday at Maridoe Golf Club (par 72/6,6,335 yards).
Gonzalez carded a pair of 76s and is in a six-way deadlock for 20th at 8-over 152 with 18 holes left to play. The freshman from Mexico posted a pair of birdies in each of her rounds to lead the Roadrunners.
Julie Houston is tied for 54th after turning in a 79-80—159, while Becky McGeehan and Madison Kidd are tied for 66th (83-79—162) and 68th (78-85—163), respectively.
Meanwhile, Nikki Long recorded a hole-in-one on the 160-yard, par-3 12th during her second round. The senior from San Antonio is in 73rd (82-84—166).
The Roadrunners are in 14th after registering a 315-319—634, five strokes ahead of Kansas State and just one behind Iowa.
No. 38 Texas A&M leads the field at 15-over 591, followed by No. 34 Iowa State (595), 26th-ranked Houston (605), No. 42 BYU (606) and TCU (607) in the top five.
The Texas A&M duo of Maddie Szeryk and Ariana Saenz sit atop the individual leaderboard at 2-under 142.
The final round is slated for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.
