Baseball to conclude road trip at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday

SAN ANTONIO – Following an upset win over No. 26 Florida Atlantic on Sunday, the UTSA baseball team will return to action Tuesday night to wrap up its road trip at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Chapman Field in Corpus Christi.

The Roadrunners (18-16) rode a standout pitching performance from Chance Kirby in Sunday's series finale. The right-hander struck out six and allowed an unearned run on two hits in 6.2 innings of work.

UTSA also posted 16 hits, led by Bryan Arias' 4 for 5 performance that included a pair of doubles.

Not only did the victory put an end to the Owls' nine-game winning streak, but it marked the Roadrunners' third win over a ranked opponent this spring.

UTSA hit .308 in the three-game series and saw its batting average rise to .270 on the year. The Birds also swatted eight doubles in the set to add to its league-leading total of 70.

Chris Estrada led the Roadrunners at the plate during the weekend, hitting .667 (6 for 9) with a pair of RBIs. Arias batted .500 (7 for 14) with three doubles and two RBIs, while Tony Beam was 3 for 9 with a double and he drove in a run.

Nathan Alexander (0-1, 6.35 ERA) is slated to start on the mound for third time this season. The junior right-hander suffered the loss in last Tuesday's 5-1 setback to Stephen F. Austin despite allowing only one run in four innings.

The Islanders (18-19) were swept in a three-game series by Lamar last weekend. A&M-Corpus Christi will send right-hander Jackson Owens (2-1, 5.67 ERA) to the mound for his ninth start of the campaign.

In 55 previous meetings, UTSA holds a 33-24 record in the all-time series, which dates back to the 2002 season. The former Southland Conference foes split a pair of games last season, each winning on the road. The Roadrunners captured a 7-3 victory on Feb. 28, 2017 in Corpus Christi, but the Islanders earned a 5-2 win just over a month later in San Antonio.
