Anderson ties UTSA high jump record at Texas Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas – Ty Anderson tied the UTSA program record in the men's high jump to pace UTSA's efforts at the Texas Invitational on Saturday. In addition, freshman Andre Douglas won the men's triple jump for his third meet event title of the season.
 
UTSA placed sixth of 14 on the men's team scoreboard with 62.25 points, while the women placed seventh of 12 with 48.5 points. Texas won both the men's (115 points) and women's (188.5 points) team titles.
 
Jumps
Anderson won the high jump with a personal-best and school-record-tying height of 2.18m. The senior cleared the bar on his fourth attempt at the height to win a jump-off against an unattached Logan Brittain. Quillan Haughton placed fifth in the event with a height of 2.02m, while Davante Edwards tied for sixth at 1.97m and Adrian Riley tied for eighth with a height of 1.97m. Gabriyella Torres placed 12th in the women's high jump, clearing 1.63m on her third attempt at the height.
 
Douglas claimed his third triple jump win of the season with a cleared distance of 15.24m. The freshman from Kingston, Jamaica, recorded his wining leap on his second attempt of the afternoon. Danielle Spence leapt 12.39 on her fourth attempt to place sixth overall in the women's triple jump as Ariel Watson covered 12.15m to place eighth.
 
Throws
Vincent Perez placed 22nd in the men's discus with a best throw of 41.29m. Mia Hicks claimed eighth in the women's discus a hurl of 47.75m, while Lacee Barnes placed ninth with a heave of 43.43m.
 
Sprints
Victoria Rausch tied for ninth in the women's 100m hurdles, clocking a collegiate PR of 13.89. Chase Whiting placed 21st as she stopped the clock in 15.03.
 
Darionne Gibson ran a 55.46 to place eight in the women's 400m dash. She was followed by Roadrunners Jennifer Arinze in ninth with a time of 55.75 and Sierra Andres in 15th with a time of 57.12. Vasha Sheriff placed sixth in the men's 400m dash with a 47.55. Austin Crocker came home 12th in the event with a personal-best time of 48.17.
 
In the women's 100m dash De'Stini Henderson placed 14th after covering the distance in 12.13 seconds. Olivia Esemena placed 16th in 12.16 and Victoria Rausch 24th with a 12.57. Jaren Colbert ran a 10.92to place 22nd in his collegiate 100-meter dash debut. Patrick Prince crossed the line in 10.99 to place 26th and Jayden Bunting in 11.09 to place 30th.
 
Andrew Piroog paced the Roadrunners in the men's 400m hurdles, placing 12th with a time of 54.37. Jonathan Boozer ran a 56.63 to place 17th and Ricardo Ramos a 56.65 to place 18th. Christy Gilbert ran a 1:02.72 in the women's 400m hurdles to claim ninth. Rachael Grossman crossed the line in 1:05.65 to place 14th.
 
Relays
The Roadrunner men's 4x100m relay team of Kaleb Campbell, Byron Taylor, Jahkwan Blackley and Jaren Colbert clocked a 41.69 to place eighth.
 
UTSA entered a pair of relay teams in both the men's and women's 4x400m events. The women's team of Darionne Gibson, Jennifer Arinze, Sierra Andres and Christy Gilbert ran a 3:51.88 to place seventh, while the group of Rachael Grossman, Lynette Amaram, Stephanie Sauceda and Colleen Gilbert placed 10th with a 4:04.48. The men's quartet of Andrew Pirog, Luca Chatham, Byron Taylor and Austin Crocker stopped the clock in 3:20.27 to place eighth and the team of Ricardo Ramos, Marcus Guajardo, Jake McDaniel and Caleb Devereaux ran a 3:28.66 to cross the line ninth.
 
Mid-Distance
Sophomore Jayela Slack placed 11th in the women's 800m after stopping the clock at 2:23.14. Caleb Devereaux placed sixth in the men's 800m, clocking a 1:56.77. Zack Kovar closely followed Devereaux across the line, posting a personal-best time of 1:56.79.
 
Distance
Gabby Gonzales placed a third in the women's 3,000m run with a personal-best time of 10:39.85 and Martin Luevano placed eighth in the men's 3,000m, completing the race in 9:20.54.
 
Up next
Select student-athletes will travel west to compete in the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays in Torrence, Calif. (April 19-21), while others will travel to Houston for the J. Fred Duckett Twilight (April 21).
