HOUSTON – UTSA scored four runs in the eighth inning to rally from a 5-2 deficit and upend Houston Baptist, 6-5, on Tuesday at Husky Field. It marked the Roadrunners' fifth consecutive victory.
Ryan Stacy provided the go-ahead RBI, as the left-handed hitter lined a double into the left-center field gap, plating Bryan Arias from second base with two outs in the eighth.
Kyrell Miller, who entered the game in the sixth inning, retired the Huskies (9-16) in order to pick up the win. The righty allowed only an unearned run and struck out four in four innings of action out of the bullpen.
Houston Baptist took an early lead after plating solo runs in the first and second innings.
UTSA (12-10) pulled even in the third after Trent Bowles hit a two-run double, scoring Arias and Stacy.
The Roadrunners committed two errors in the fourth that led to two unearned runs. The Huskies picked up its final tally in the seventh after an errant throw on a stolen base allowed Spencer Halloran to score.
The decisive stanza started when Dylan Rock hit a solo home run to left. After Chris Estrada drew a walk and Chase Keng singled, Garrett Moon hit a grounder at the third baseman who tagged out Estrada. Two batters later, Arias hit a groundball that was misplayed scoring Keng. Moon then scored on a wild pitch to tie game, as Arias moved into scoring position setting up Stacy's heroics.
Stacy finished 2 for 4 with a double, a triple and the go-ahead RBI. Rock was 3 for 5 with his third homer of the season.
UTSA will continue its road trip on Thursday, as the Roadrunners open a three-game series with Western Kentucky in Bowling Green.
