Roadrunners to take four-game winning streak to Houston Baptist on Tuesday

SAN ANTONIO – Fresh off a Conference USA sweep of Marshall, the UTSA baseball team will look to continue its winning ways with a non-conference tilt at Houston Baptist on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Husky Field.

The Roadrunners (11-10) won all four games last week at Roadrunner Field. The Birds knocked off No. 30 Texas State, 7-2, and then captured all three contests against the Thundering Herd to move up to fourth in the C-USA standings.

In the series victory versus Marshall, UTSA hit .319 and outscored the Thundering Herd 27-7. The Roadrunners' pitching staff limited Marshall to a .196 batting average while logging a 2.08 ERA. Nine UTSA pitchers combined to register 27 strikeouts and yield only five walks.

Steven Dressler and Chance Kirby both won their starting assignments in the set, while Palmer Wenzel picked up Friday night's win in relief. Derek Craft, Hunter Mason and Andre Shewcraft all did not allow an earned run in their respective relief appearances.

Bryan Arias paced the Roadrunners' offensive charge at the plate last weekend, as the right-handed hitter posted a .455 batting average. Dylan Rock hit .444 with a solo home runs, while Trent Bowles batted .364 with three doubles, a homer and four RBIs. Bowles also slugged .909 in the series.

The Huskies (9-15) have lost three of their last four outings, including two of three at Southeastern Louisiana last weekend in Hammond. Houston Baptist is hitting .228 as a team while averaging 3.9 runs per game. On the mound, the Huskies own a 3.83 ERA while the team is giving up an average of 4.5 runs per game.

Tuesday's meeting will mark the 15th time the two teams have matched up. UTSA swept the season series last year. The Roadrunners recorded an 18-6 win on March 21, and then picked up a 10-2 victory on April 25. UTSA is 3-1 in games played at Husky Field.

The Roadrunners will send left-hander Jordan Rodriguez (0-1, 0.87 ERA) to the mound for Tuesday's game. The Houston native has made two starts this spring. In his last starting appearance against then-No. 17 Texas on Feb. 27, he held the Longhorns to two unearned runs on six hits with three strikeouts in 4.2 innings in Austin.
