BATON ROUGE, La. — Led by a third-place finish from Julie Houston, the UTSA women's golf team placed sixth at the LSU Tiger Classic, which concluded Sunday at the University Club (par 72/6,247 yards).
Houston fired her second straight 1-over-par 73, which was highlighted by four birdies with a pair coming on each side. The two-time All-Conference USA performer completed the 54-hole event at 5-over 221 (75-73-73) to end up in a deadlock with Houston's Megan Thothong in the 72-player field.
Houston wrote down a team-best eight birdies during the event and had the second-most pars (36) in the field. The junior from Allen now has finished in the top five in back-to-back tournaments and six times during her UTSA career, and it also marked her 10th career top 10.
Ana Gonzalez matched Houston's final-round 73 on the strength of a trio of birdies. The freshman from Monterrey, Mexico, moved into a tie for 16th with a 231 (81-77-73) on the final day.
Becky McGeehan registered her second consecutive 77 and ended up in a tie for 38th with a 237, while Nikki Long and Madison Kidd rounded out the UTSA lineup in 45th (81-81-79—241) and 66th (93-80-78), respectively.
The Roadrunners carded a 301 on the final day and finished sixth with a 928, one shot ahead of SMU and just one behind Mercer.
No. 48 LSU rallied for the team title with a 902, finishing two shots in front of No. 26 Houston (904). No. 25 Virginia and 38th-ranked North Carolina State tied for third (917).
Claudia De Antonio of LSU captured individual medalist honors with a 1-under 215 (74-72-69).
The Roadrunners will be back on the course on April 2-3 when they travel to Carrollton, Texas, for the Bruzzy Challenge.
