Roadrunner Invitational opens with decathlon and heptathlon

SAN ANTONIO – Adrian Riley and Gabriyella Torres lead UTSA's multis efforts in the opening day of the Roadrunner Invitational, contested at the Roadrunners' Park West Athletics Complex on Thursday.
 
After five events in the decathlon Riley leads the event with 4,085 points. Riley, the native Jamaican, scored 1,010 points in the long jump with an impressive distance of 7.80m. The senior collected 924 points in the 100m dash (10.72), 831 in the high jump (2.03m), 706 in the 400m dash (52.44) and 614 in the shot put (12.12m). Sophomore Jake McDaniel sits second on the leaderboard with 3,538 tallies. The Houston native counted 803 points in the high jump after a clearance of 2.00m. He also netted 797 points in the long jump (6.93m), 721 in the 100m (11.65), 634 in the 400m (54.14) and 721 in the 100m (11.65).
 
Through four events in the heptathlon UTSA's Torres is second with 3,028 points. Torres collected 901 points in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.56. The junior for Port Isabel, Texas, totaled 783 points in the high jump (1.64m), 556 in the shot put (10.40m) and 788 in the 200m dash (26.11). Sophomore Chase Whiting tallied 2,679 points and is third in the field. Her top points-scoring event was the 200m with a time of 26.11 for 788 points. She collected 782 markers in the 100m hurdles (15.46), 610 in the high jump (1.49m) and 496 in the shot put (9.49m).
 
The Roadrunner Invitational continues Friday with action scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with the conclusion of the multis before the women's hammer and men's shot open at 1 p.m. The javelin will then be contested at 5 p.m. The remaining field events will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday and the running disciplines will start at 2 p.m. with a rolling schedule (click HERE for a complete meet schedule).
 
Admission to all three days of the meet is FREE.
