Series history vs. Sam Houston State

UTSA and Sam Houston State are each 10-10 at home in the series, but UTSA holds the 3-0 edge in neutral site games. Thursday's meeting will be the first between the two schools since the 2011-12 season when UTSA took both games from the Bearkats in Southland Conference play, including a 78-66 win in San Antonio.

About the CIT
• The CIT features five rounds of play over three weeks. The semifinals (March 28, 6 p.m. CT) and championship game (March 30, 7 p.m. CT) will be televised live on CBS Sports Network.
• This is the 10th anniversary of the CIT and the tournament has served as a showcase for talented players and programs from across the nation. The CIT was created to provide an opportunity to participate in postseason for deserving programs not selected to play in the NCAA Tournament or the NIT.
• The 20-team field is made up of non-Power 5 programs, not selected to participate in the NCAA or NIT (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, PAC-12 and SEC teams are not considered). Games are played on campus sites. In an effort to minimize travel and limit missed class time, the CIT uses the old NIT model, with future round opponents determined by results of the previous round, ensuring geographic stability. The 2009 and 2010 tournaments were contested by 16 teams. The 2011 CIT consisted of 24 teams and adopted its current format 2012.
• This year's field includes the Roadrunners, Lamar, Wofford, Northern Colorado, Portland State, Sam Houston State, Central Michigan, Fort Wayne, Abilene Christian, Drake, North Carolina A&T, Liberty, Hartford, San Diego, Saint Francis (PA), UIC, Niagara, Eastern Michigan, UL Monroe and Austin Peay.

UTSA in the postseason
• UTSA is making its fifth postseason appearance in the program's 37-year history, joining the NCAA Tournament teams of 1988, 1999, 2004 and 2011. UTSA's first postseason victory came from the 2010-11 squad that defeated Alabama State 70-61 in the NCAA First Four.
• The Roadrunners, owners of a 186 RPI, entered the CIT boasting an 19-14 overall record and fresh off a Conference USA Championship quarterfinal appearance after placing fifth in C-USA's regular season standings.
• The Roadrunners earned the second postseason victory in program history with its 76-69 win over Lamar in the CIT opener.

Postseason win number two
• UTSA won its second-ever postseason game when it defeated Lamar 76-69 in the opening round of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament on March 14. The win, which was also the first postseason game held inside the Convocation Center, joins this year's squad with the 2010-11 team as the only Roadrunner athletic teams in any sport to win any postseason game.

Chasing history
• UTSA is not only seeking its second postseason win in the same year, which would be a program first, but also the all-time single season wins mark of 22, which is held by the 1987-88 and 1989-90 teams. The Roadrunners have 20 wins on the season; a win in the CIT quarterfinal and semifinal will tie the record and a CIT championship win would set the new mark at 23 victories.

Defending home court
• In the two seasons under head coach Steve Henson, UTSA has posted a 23-6 record at the Convocation Center. The Roadrunners went 11-3 at home last season and are 12-3 this season.
• Prior to these two seasons, UTSA last posted consecutive 11-win home seasons when the program went 11-3 in 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 as members of the Southland Conference.
• The 1991-92 team was the last Roadrunners squad to win more than 12 games at the Convocation Center, finishing 14-1.

Up next
• With a win UTSA will advance to the semifinals of the CIT against a to-be-determined opponent on Wed., March 28 with the site and time also to-be-determined. A loss ends the Roadrunners 2017-18 campaign with and the intercollegiate careers of Austin Karrer, James Ringholt, Kyle Massie and Kendell Ramlal.
