Roadrunner Invitational starts Thursday

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA outdoor track & field program hosts its second meet in as many weeks as the Roadrunner Invitational kicks off on Thursday with competition also slated for Friday and Saturday (March 22-24) at the Park West Athletics Complex.
 
The event
Thursday opens the meet with a first half of the decathlon beginning at Noon and the first half of the heptathlon commencing at 12:30 p.m. Friday's action is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with the conclusion of the multis before the women's hammer and men's shot open at 1 p.m. The javelin will then be contested at 5 p.m. The remaining field events will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday and the running disciplines will start at 2 p.m. with a rolling schedule (click HERE for a complete meet schedule).
 
Admission to all three days of the meet is FREE.

UTSA's track & field facility boasts the only Olympic-quality running surface in South Texas. Marked with wider lanes and enhanced subsurface support, the track was constructed to host national and international meets, as well as NCAA Championship events. The stadium currently includes 1,000 seats and a spacious state-of-the-art press box. Open areas surrounding the facility have been designed to house temporary seating up to 10,000 for national and international competitions.

This weekend will serve as the final tune-up before the 91st Clyde Littlefield Texas Relay presented by Home Depot in Austin, contested March 28-31.
 
The competition
UTSA will compete against Akron, Baylor, Kansas State, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas State and Stephen F. Austin.
 
Roadrunner competitors
UTSA will field 56 total men's entries, including a team-high seven competitors in the 100-meter dash. The women have 46 total entries with a team-high eight in the hammer throw.
 
UTSA enters the meet with the men's top 110m hurdles time in the nation with junior Patrick Prince's 13.79 at last week's UTSA Invitational. In addition, freshman Andre Douglas's triple jump of 15.34m ranks fifth among the NCAA's leaders. Moreover, the Roadrunner program combine to hold 39 top five Conference USA marks and 66 of the league's top 6 marks.
