Baseball to continue road trip this weekend at McNeese State

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA baseball team will continue its five-game road trip this weekend with a three-game series at former Southland Conference foe McNeese State. The set is scheduled to open at 6 p.m. Friday at Joe Miller Ballpark in Lake Charles, La. Saturday's contest has a 3 p.m. first pitch, while Sunday's series finale is slated to begin at 1 p.m.

The Roadrunners (2-5) are looking to snap a four-game losing streak. UTSA was swept in a three-game series by third-ranked Texas Tech last weekend in San Antonio, while No. 17 Texas handed the Birds a 2-0 setback on Tuesday in Austin.

The Cowboys (2-6) started the campaign with six consecutive losses but bounced back recently in a combined no-hitter against Texas State on Sunday followed by a 6-3 victory over No. 21 Mississippi State on Wednesday night.

FORMER SOUTHLAND FOES
UTSA and McNeese State are no strangers, as the two programs competed as members of the Southland Conference for 20 seasons. The Roadrunners were members of the Southland from 1993-2012 before moving on to the Western Athletic Conference in 2013 and then to Conference USA a year later.

STARTING ROTATION STEPPING UP
Through seven games, UTSA's starting rotation has logged a 2.37 ERA with 27 strikeouts in 30.1 innings. Four pitchers have earned a starting nod this spring. Chance Kirby boasts a team-best 16 strikeouts, Steven Dressler has worked a team-high 13.1 innings, while Derek Craft and Jordan Rodriguez both have yet to allow earned runs in 2018.
