SAN ANTONIO – Laura Cabrera rallied from a set down to tie the match in singles play, but Central Arkansas received the clinching point at the sixth position to edge UTSA, 4-3, on Saturday at the UTSA Tennis Center.
The Sugar Bears (9-2) held a 3-1 lead before Diya Menon and Cabrera won three-set decisions in singles play to allow the Roadrunners (5-9) to pull even. However, Amiru Shimoguchi rallied from a set down to knock off Kylee Kato at the fifth position to clinch the match.
Central Arkansas started the contest by winning two of three doubles decisions to pick up the early point.
The Sugar Bears then added a win at the third singles position to increase their lead to 2-0. Charleen Tiwari finished off her opponent at No. 4 singles (6-4, 6-2) to put UTSA on the board.
After Denisa Ibrahimovic went down at the top spot, Menon and Cabrera won their matches to tie the contest at 3-3.
The Roadrunners will concluded their four-match home stand on Sunday against New Mexico State. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
