Baseball to match up with Texas State on Tuesday night in San Marcos

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA will open up a four-game road trip on Tuesday night with a stop at I-35 rival Texas State. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Bobcat Ballpark in San Marcos.

The Roadrunners (7-7) are coming off a four-game split against Columbia that included victories in the final two contests of the series.

UTSA won in walk-off fashion on Saturday night, 3-2, and then collected 15 hits en route to an 8-5 win in Sunday's finale.

Bryan Arias, who drove in the winning run in the third game of the series, leads the Birds with a .322 batting average. The San Antonio native also has team highs with three home runs and 13 RBIs.

Trent Bowles is riding a seven-game hitting streak, while Tony Beam has hit safely in the last six contests.

Meanwhile, the Bobcats (9-4-1) saw their six-game winning streak come to an end on Sunday after playing UC Santa Barbara to a 4-4 tie in the final game of  a three-game set.

Texas State is hitting .261 on the year and averaging 5.9 runs per contest.

Dylan Paul owns a team-best .352 batting average, while Derek Scheible has hit four home runs and driven in 14.

Tuesday's game marks the 91st time the two teams have matched up. The Bobcats own a 56-34 advantage in the all-time series that dates back to the 1992 season. UTSA has won 13 times in San Marcos, including a 9-1 triumph in the last meeting at Bobcat Ballpark on March 7, 2017. Texas State defeated the Roadrunners on May 2 of last season, an 11-8 decision at Roadrunner Field.

Following Tuesday night's tilt, UTSA will open Conference USA play at No. 16 Southern Miss on Friday.
